The commissioning ceremony for Burkina Faso's national grid project—the SONABEL Bobo-Dioulasso 26.4 MW heavy fuel oil power plant—was successfully held on August 8, 2026, local time, marking the full delivery of this EPC project. Senior officials from Burkina Faso's energy authorities and the national grid company were present in full force, and local media conducted an exclusive interview with the project lead from Jiangsu Chuanshang.

The Bobo II heavy fuel oil power plant is the first modern energy project in the region and has drawn significant public attention.

Previously, the city of Bobo-Dioulasso suffered from severe power shortages, with public institutions such as schools and hospitals plagued by chronic electricity outages. The existing power plant's generating capacity was insufficient, constraining the city's normal operations.
This expansion project, completed on schedule over the course of one year, adds three MAN 18H32/40 generating sets to the existing plant, increasing installed capacity by 26.4 MW, with the integration of highly efficient and environmentally friendly heavy fuel oil power generation technology. Once operational, the project will fundamentally alleviate the local power shortage and inject strong momentum into regional economic development and the improvement of people's livelihoods.

Chinese engineering, renowned across West Africa for its superior quality, cutting-edge technology, and efficient construction, has earned widespread recognition from local stakeholders. This project also lays a solid foundation for continued energy and technology cooperation between the two sides in the future.
